General safety tips

As a resident of Culdesac, your safety is important to us. Here are some safety practices to keep in mind:

  1. Lock your doors and windows: Always lock your doors and windows when you leave your apartment or go to bed at night. This will help prevent unauthorized entry.
  2. Be aware of your surroundings: Stay alert and aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone at night or in secluded areas. If you feel unsafe please call 911. To report suspicious activity, please contact us at (480) 210 6004 and press option 2 for security to speak with a staff member.
  3. Report suspicious activity: If you notice any suspicious activity or people, report it immediately to management or 911 if you feel you are in harms way.
  4. Be prepared for emergencies: Familiarize yourself with the emergency exits in your building. Have a plan in place for emergencies such as fires or severe weather.
  5. Use caution with visitors: When having visitors, ensure that they are escorted to and from your apartment. Do not let strangers into your building or pod without verifying they are residents.

Remember, safety is everyone's responsibility. Please reach out to a staff member if you have any questions or concerns.

Crime

Culdesac Tempe is a Crime-Free Multi-Housing community. As a Culdesac Tempe resident, you play a critical role in partnering with us to maintain a safe environment. If a crime is being committed or you feel you are in danger, call 911. If you see a person trespassing, potential houseless individual in need of resources, or any other non-emergency needs, call our main phone number at (480) 210-6004  and press 2 to be directed to a staff member.

Personal Safety

If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe from another resident, or unknown individual, remove yourself from any direct contact, and report the incident to our leasing staff. Please include a description of the individual, a brief description of the event, and any unit number that may be associated with the individual. For any community-related issues, please call (480) 210 6004 and press 2 to be directed to a staff member.

Fire Safety

Regularly check and test smoke alarms, avoid overloading electrical outlets, and never leave cooking or heating equipment unattended. Please use the electric timer provided at move-in to charge your ebike for no more than two hours at a time.

Fire Response

Please follow these practices for responding to a potential fire on site:

  1. Stay Calm: If you hear a fire alarm or smell smoke, remain calm and do not panic. Try to exit the building immediately.
  2. Call 911: Once you are outside and in a safe location, call 911 to report the fire.
  3. Familiarize yourself with and follow the safety signage posted at all exits of your building.
  4. Exit the Building: If the fire is small and contained, you may be able to put it out with a fire extinguisher. However, if the fire is too large, get out of the building as quickly and safely as possible.
  5. Follow Evacuation Procedures: Follow the posted evacuation procedures located near the exits. Follow the main pathways to the nearest exit.
  6. Stay Low: If smoke is present, stay low to the ground where the air is cleaner.
  7. Check Doors: Before opening any doors, check them first with the back of your hand to see if they are hot. If they are hot, do not open them, as this could cause the fire to spread.
  8. Use Exits: Use the stairs, not the elevator, to exit the building. Elevators may malfunction during a fire.
  9. Do Not Return: Do not re-enter the building until the fire department or a member of the Culdesac team tells you it's safe to do so.

Smoke detectors

Our leasing staff will change the batteries of your smoke detector at move in to maintain the longevity of your smoke detector. It is your responsibility to check the battery every three months for your safety and the safety of others. To test the battery, hold the smoke detector button down for three seconds. You will hear a long beep if the battery is healthy, and a series of short beeps if the battery is low. If your battery is low, please text or call (480) 210 6004 option 3, or submit through your resident portal to create a maintenance ticket for your battery replacement.

Holiday checklist

When leaving your unit for an extended period of time, make sure to check the following:

  • Set thermostat to off to save energy while away
  • Mark your status as away in our Luxer One package system so that your packages will not be marked for return to sender
  • Check your mailbox for any mail
  • Ensure your ebike is unplugged and your ebike/bike is in your unit if you plan to leave it on site

Severe weather preparations

Severe weather incidents can happen at any time, and it is important to be prepared. At Culdesac, we prioritize safety and encourage all residents to have a plan in place for severe weather. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

  1. Stay informed: Stay up-to-date on weather forecasts and alerts from local authorities. Follow local officials’ communication channels for updates.
  2. Create an emergency kit: Put together a basic emergency kit that includes essentials like water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, and a flashlight.
  3. Review your insurance: Make sure you have adequate insurance coverage for potential damage caused by severe weather incidents.

By following these tips and being proactive, you can help keep yourself and our community safe during severe weather incidents.
